Citrus juices are generally not recommended for people who suffer from heartburn. However, if you consume diluted lemon juice heartburn may be relieved shortly. All you have to do is to mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice with ½ glass of water. As soon as you drink this mix the burning sensation will calm down until it will disappear completely.
If you want to obtain more lemon juice, you are recommended to keep lemons at room temperature, rather than refrigerate them. Also, you can microwave them for several seconds. Keep in mind, though, that overdoing them will result in boiled juice. After microwaving the lemons, you can roll them on the countertop with your palm a bit. Next, you can proceed to juicing.
Lemon juice is not only good for heartburn, but also for many other digestive problems. It will determine your salivary glands to produce more saliva and it will neutralize the gastric acid by causing a basic reaction in the stomach. As a consequence, it can be successfully used in the treatment of:
- Dyspepsia
- Constipation
- Biliousness
Apple cider vinegar seems to have a similar effect to lemon juice when treating heartburn. Since both apple cider vinegar can decrease the amount of gas in the stomach, you should mix one of these with diluted baking soda. This combination is particularly effective if consumed after eating spicy food.
Diet adjustments are necessary when you suffer from heartburn, and giving up spicy or fat foods is one of the best choices you can make. In addition to that, you may want to avoid:
- Coffee
- Alcohol
- Chewing gum
Please note that lemon juice is only recommended in mild cases of heartburn. If this problem tends to become worse and you get diagnosed with continuous heartburn, you should rely on medication.
