Wheat and Heartburn

If you are experiencing heartburn, indigestion and other digestive discomfort after eating wheat-based foods then there is a good chance that your body has difficulty producing the enzymes that are needed to break down wheat. This can mean you are gluten intolerent, or simply sensitive to wheat and other gluten grains like rye and barley.

To cure this problem there is one action take – stop eating anything that contains wheat and gluten. If you try this for one month and notice a great improvement, chances are your body simply doesn’t agree with wheat.

If you are concerned about fiber, don’t be. You can replace cereal fiber with that from fruits and vegetables like apples, avocado, banana, brocolli, eggplant, leafy greens as well as various types of beans.

It can be difficult to completely avoid wheat products. It is not just a matter of ditching bread and cereals. Many processed foods now contain wheat and gluten so you really have to pay attention to what you’re buying. The good news is that there gluten free alternatives to almost everything these days.

There are online stores that are set up specifically for people who wish to buy gluten-free and wheat-free foods. You won’t have to miss out on your favorite foods at all!

Wheat and heartburn is a very common occurance. But thankfully there are easy ways around it without sacrificing your much loved foods.

That’s a good question, surely if you were allergic to wheat then you would react to ALL the foods that contain it……According to Dr. James Breneman, past president of the American College of Allergists, persistent heartburn from a particular food is a reliable symptom of allergy to that food. Food allergies stimulate histamine release, which stimulates stomach-acid secretion. Most common offenders are cow’s-milk products, wheat, eggs, corn, beef, soy, and some citrus fruits…..Something i did notice about the examples you listed of wheat pasta and tortillas not giving u heartburn but wheat bread almost always does…….bread has yeast to help it rise but pasta and tortillas don’t……maybe the foods that give you heartburn have an ingredient in common other than the wheat……or maybe they are processed in a different way….which could explain why not ALL wheat containing foods cause a problem ; ]

I have a similar issue, but it only happens with a particular kind of wheat bread, one that uses minimally processed wheat. I eat quite a bit of whole grains of all types, and do not believe I have gluten or yeast issues, as the only time this happens is when I eat this bread. (I know I could just not eat this bread, but it’s really good and I’m more curious why it occurs.)
